FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
Tempe, AZ, August 20, 2009
On Sunday, August 23, at 3pm, Sun Sounds of Arizona will air a special presentation of the 19th Anniversary Celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act, held at the Arizona State Capitol on July 24th, 2009, and hosted by the Arizona Disability Advocacy Coalition (AzDAC). This year’s anniversary theme, “Coming Full Circle: Getting Back to the Original Intent of the ADA,” emphasized the increased need for disability advocacy in the face of state budget cuts.
At the event, AzDAC honored several community members who have supported and advanced the mission of the ADA. Award recipients included: Valley Metro and Metro Light Rail for including passengers with disabilities in their light rail design plans; Ken Jacuzzi, Director of the recently-closed Arizona Office for Americans with Disabilities; and Senators Karen Allen and John Huppenthal, and the House Democratic Leadership (Representatives David Lujan, Krysten Sinema, and Chad Campbell) who have been relentless in efforts to educate citizens and engage key stakeholders in the state budget proposals.
The program also includes uplifting speeches and information about the current state of Arizona’s ADA Amendment Act.
Sun Sounds of Arizona’s broadcast is available online at sunsounds.org/listen and on HD radio at 91.5, channel 3. This program will pre-empt the regularly scheduled Sunday programs Special Features and Disability News.
